1983 Hunter 31 Fuel Filter

I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a fuel filter or fuel pump.
It says Perko on it and does not appear to have any electrical power so I assume it filter.
I have tried to open it at the top and can not it is stuck.
If it is a filter it would be nice to open and clean.

Any suggestions would be great thanks

You are right. It's the original primary fuel filter. I replaced mine with a Racor 120 series fuel filter a couple years ago. Do a search with the key words "bronze beast" and you will find a thread from last September on this topic.

It is the original Fuel filter. I installed a spin on Racor further down line but left this one in place. I clean the filter element once per year with kerosene. I would like to be able to buy a new element- I believe the model number is 750998

If I were you I would take the old Perko out and install a Racor it will pay in the long run. It also has a water separator. It changes like an oil filter very simple.
