Ahoy,

On my 1983 H30 I have 9 opening port lights. I'm trying to estimate the cost of replacing them all with NFM Tri-Matrix ports. Can anyone tell me off hand what sizes I need?

Thanks,

Lyle

Seems to me the best approach is to spec the Pompanette web site for the sizes and model numbers of the ones that you currently have, then take that info to the NFM folks and ask them to help you cross reference their models. Considering the investment you would be making, they should be MOST helpful.

BTW, Ed Schenk, a frequent contributor to this forum who owns a Cherubini cutter named Ladylove replaced all of his with NFM lights and loves them. You might check the archives using the search feature or look up his "owner mods" for details of his process and project.

I once believed that all Cherubini opening ports were what we callled "5x12" or "7x15". But from this thread that is obviously not the case: http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=179233&highlight=portlight . But in fact 5x12 and 7x15 are the only two sizes that you can get in a Tri-Matrix.

Are you asking because you do not know how to measure? Or because you do not have access to the boat? I am surprised that the '83 has nine opening ports. I thought Hunter had gone to more of those long fixed portlights in that year. I know that early H30s had four 5x12s and four 7x15s. Maybe one on the quarterberth too like mine.

My approach simple, determine the port sizes then go from there.

I really like the Try-Matrix ports, I know they only come in two sizes.

I can drive over tomorrow and measure. Just thought perhaps someone with another H30 had already been "there done that"

I have no fixed ports on my 83 H30.

I hope to have what Ed described as the early H30 configuration, (4) 7x15 in the main salon, (2) 5x12 in the head (2) 5x12 in the V berth + (1) 5x12 in the quarterberth.

My 1980 H30 has three different sized port lights. Five 5x12's in the v-berth, head and quarterberth, two 7x15's in the forward most spots in the main salon, and two larger ones in the after most spots in the main salon. I think they're 8x18; wide enough that they're the only two with a third center dog along the bottom edge.

I was going to go that route, but they only came in the two sizes. I didn't feel like glassing up the holes to make them smaller. I ended up buying all my ports from the chandlery here. It was cheaper than getting them from pompanette. I replaced all nine. and they all dropped right in the existing holes.

That exactly matches what I have in my 1982 H30.

I got over to Clearwater this weekend and took some measurements.

It's confirmed........Three sizes, just as bgrube described.

Thanks All,

Lyle
