Just purchased a 1980 Catalina 30. The bow nav lights are resssed in the hull on this model. The lenses have lost their color. Anyone know where I can get the exact green and red replacement units/lenses for this model Catalina?

The engine on this 1980 Catalina 30 is a 11Hp Atomic 4 Diesel. I am interested in upgrading/increasing the size of this engine. Any suggestion on how to go about this. Do i have to replace the entire engine or can the existing engine be reworked to get more power?

Uwe,
The lights you have are Whitecap SS Nav lights (model S-918) sold as a pair. I got mine from "Defender outfitters" for about $35.00(mail order).

I'm not crazy about these lights, and the new LED lights are nice but haven,t found a pair without having to make a filler plate for the original cutout. The Whitecap lights are a direct replacement. You should check online for the best price.

About my 3M20A diesel, Westerbeke bought the universal line about 10 years ago, the first thing was that all the replacement parts jumped in price. My engine came with the Sherwood salt water pump, a real piece of shit designed to fail(32 separate parts). After 3 replacements in 6 years I used the Oberdoffer pump (these are the best).

The engine came from R. B. Groves in Miami. Check around to see if you can find a good engine rebuild. Some of the guys in this thread suggested some.

You may wanna start to get a collection of boat catalogs. You will be able to see what you need then check for cheaper prices as the retailers add that "third party" markup. I get some good savings hunting online.

Hope this helps,
CR

Uwe: My C30 was a 1981 and had your bow light setup. Some engineer boat designer, who probably never had been on a sail boat, thought that that location looked trick but it is in the worse possible location for lighting. They are subject to water spray but more importantly they are at the water line and hard for other boaters to see. Light setups should be designed to be seen - right?

Do yourself a favor and relocate the lights on the bow pulpit. You have to remove the pulpit for this mod but it is no big deal. One side of the pulpit leg has an opening in which you run the wire. You'll be much happier with this setup as other boater can more easily see you and you won't be replacing bulbs all the time.
