I have several quetions about the old YSM 12, (1979). Is there any way you can quiet this one banger down. What should you expect for performance out of this engine. What would cause the engine to get noisier as it heats up, and lose speed.
I had a '79 H-30 with that engine. Loud but a steady eddie; very reliable. As to your problem, I'd say you have a cooling or lubricating problem. If it's cooling, the two likely sources are that the pump isn't drawing well or that the water reservoir (which has a drain on the bottom) is full of crud and needs to be flushed out. (Mine was so loaded with junk that I had to take the plug out and push a stiff wire up into the chamber to break the accumulation free.
I used tio have a real loud running YSM 12 until I started using synthitic oil in it. Now it not only runs much more quiet, but it also runs cooler. It might be a little more expensive using synthitic oil, but it is well worth it not to hear all that noise.
