1979 Hunter 30 - 1" prop shaft, flax recommendation

Ahoy,

I am repacking my packing gland for the first time. I removed the old flax which measured .20 x .210 inch. Is that to be interpreted as 3/16 or 1/4 inch? I need to repack and want to be sure to get the proper size flax. That said, is there a particular brand or type of flax that is recommended? I believe the packing gland assembly to be 1979 original.

I used 3/16" GFO Teflon on my 79.

3/16" GTU Gore (& graffite) Shaft Packing with PTEF (Teflon) in combination with Syntef PTEF based stuffing box lubricant left behind by the P.O.
The lubricant is claimed to prolong the life of the shaft packing. Seems like one little jar is a lifetime supply.
