1979 H30 YSE12 Exhaust

I have an exhaust leak on my YSE12. In my very brief look, it appears to be coming from either the exhaust elbow, or perhaps the exhaust riser pipe that leads to the mixer elbow. I am about 90 minutes from the boat and am trying to determine before I go back if it is possible to have all the possible replacements on hand or if I need to disassemble first. I have identified the gasket and the elbow but cannot identify the riser pipe. Is this a standard piece of Yanmar gear or is it a piece that is custom cut to the boat?

Thanks,
Geoff

Are you talking about the threaded nipple between the riser and the mixing elbow? I replaced all 3 on my ysm12, which is similar to the yse12. I bought my nipple from TOAD marine. I believe it was stainless steel.

The riser per the Yanmar catalog is called a "Vertical manifold" part number 104511-13070. The nipple is part number 104214-13580 and has a left hand thread on one side

This is the part I think you are referring to in the picture. I need the pipe that attaches to this and goes up to the mixing elbow.
104214-13580. Yanmar is pretty proud of those is looks like. One side is rh and the other lh

No, I actually am looking for the riser.
You will have to disassemble to determine the location of the leak. Here's the little bugger from a 2GM20F ready to go back in.

The best tool for removing the piece between the elbow and the bottom cast piece is the "right hand of God". Top is a LH thread and the bottom is a RH thread.

Ah a picture is worth a thousand words. I have 18" to 2' of pipe between those two elbows. That is the part I am trying to figure out before I decide what spares to order.

Does it really need to be 2 feet between? Mine is setup like Ralphs. Maybe a PO's improvisation?

I don't know. I had assumed that it was part of a system to prevent back flow. I will have to go up to the boat and disassemble what I have to figure out a path going forward.

................. and your picture will be with a thousand words as well. Shoot it from every angle and let's see what's going on. I'm losing sleep over this thing already.

Where does the exhaust come thru the hull? Must be pretty high if he needed the elbow up like that.

It goes up and back down to the muffler further aft along the bottom. Exhaust comes through the hull in the standard location for the Hunter 30, on the starboard side of the transom. No pictures for a while as we are 90 minutes from the boat. Maybe next weekend.

I know the H30 Cherubini's have changed during their production and yours sounds like mine only on my 1979 it exited below the transom but still above the waterline. I am thinking that a previous owner rigged yours up. Maybe didn't want to pay Yanmar for that expensive nipple/adapter and had a buddy thread a pipe with left and right hand threads. One thing that has got me scratching my head is my engine compartment is not high enough to allow a 2 foot long piece between the vertical manifold and mixing elbow.........??
