O'Day 30 Fixer-upper
Hi, My Name is David, It sounds like you & I are in the same boat, i rebuilt a O'Day 25 that my family has outgrown.O'Day 30' ( just bought one ) The cabin roof skylites in the V-berth seem to be shot on most of the boats I looked at. as well as the one I bought. The stern pulpit rail does not have an opening to pass through. This makes it very awkward to go off the stern or get back in the boat. I'm going to add 2 Stanchions & clip a small opening that the ladder will fill. They resolved this problem on the "80" model. If your cabin furniture ( laminate type ) is sound but, ugly stick on teak my be an option for you. the materials are a little costly but it turns a complete cabinet redo into a doable and much less costly project.Cabin Soles are tough! the floor of most O'Days have rounded transitions. this makes for a slow job Fortunatly my boat's teak&holly Sole looked like new. Counter tops are likely to need a replacement. Corian Works great and the teak will re-atach well if you double the turndown thickness.I am curently reserching products to resurface the nonskid on deck. I don't care for the light blue color, and a poor repair was done in two spots. I have sailed several O'days They are great boats no mater what the weather. It's a shame they bombed in the eighties. If come up with solutions for any of the O'Day 30's ticks along the way , clue me in. It may save some space in my brain for the next thing. GOOD LUCK
