Rudder Bushings
I just did this job on my 27. The Bushings that he will supply you need to be fitted. I took my rudder home to fit them. The bushings are very hard. I made a drum sander and used 180 grit sand paper to do the job. It took some time to do it. If I had to do it over would have a machine shop fit them for me. First removed the Rudder and cleaned the shaft. Then you need to go under the cockpit and remove the screw that holds the bottom one in. There is also a screw on the top. I used a large socket and a long extension to drive my old ones out. Installed the new one the same way. Used 5200 to bond them to the tube,Then installed the screws. They lasted over twenty years so am not worried about removing them. Not a real hard job just time consuming.

What are the bushings made of, metal or a plastic ? Did you put grease fittings in when you replaced them ? There's no play in my rudder shaft, but the rudder is very stiff : there's one grease gun fitting on the collar/thrust bearing that was installed when a PO put in an Edson wheel steering system, but nothing that I have seen to lube the rudder post. They are black plastic. Not sure what type but real hard to cut. Yes I did install one upper and one lower zerk fittings. Where is the quadrant for the Edson? Did he cut the tube? If he did that you might need four bushings. I wouldn't have much room with a wheel. But to each his own. Good luck, if you need anymore information please ask.
