Local Yanmar dealer was vague about the existence of a kit to repair the pump, but at this point I'm willing to replace it, I'm stuck at the dock! Started leaking like a siv, and practically cooked my engine on the way to Catalina! Any suggestions as the where I can find an exact replacement, and is it a pretty idiot-proof job to replace it? Anything I should know? Thanks!

Mail order is easy !

Just give BOAT US a call and mail order. You can also look in any sailing magazine and call any facility that sells Yanmar parts. Not worth a rebuild kit, new pump is around $126 and is easy to install. Will take you less than 1 hour if you never did it before, 15 minutes if you know what you're doing. Also check thermastat. If never replaced you may want to think about it, dont forget to order the gasket. One more thing, replace the zink inside the engine, this also requires a gasket ! Important and easy jobs to stay cool and healthy! Good Luck and smooth sailing, Mark Slifko Almost Paradise mcslifko@erols.com

Thanks!

Thanks for the information! I have never done it before, so i'll plan on an hour... Current pump was mounted with a gasket compound of some sort. I'll clean it off, and use a new gasket. Thanks for the thermostat suggestion, I assume BOAT US will also carry the part. I've already done the engine zinc several times - that big sucker is also becoming rare, I bought the last one at every Yanmar dealer around! (We have serious stray current problems in Marina Del Rey!)

I rebuilt mine for $11.50

I had a leaky raw water pump on a 2GM so I bought a copy of "Marine Diesel Engines" by Nigel Calder and The Yanmar repair manual. I also, had never taken a water pump off or tried to rebuild one. It can off in 15 minutes and apart in 30. I took the parts that looked worn(bearing cover, oil seal, water seal ring) to my yanmar parts guy and replaced them for 11.50$ Put it back together as per Nigal's instructions and no leaks. Now I have a new pump and 2 great maintenance tools(books) for 60$ and it was fun. You will need some metric wrenches. Good Luck Dan SV Illusions

Sounds definitely cheaper! (And I already have the Yanmar manual). Just a matter of finding the right "Yanmar guy" willing to help with the parts, I guess... Thanks for your input.
