One year later ,progress report.
Dear Joe,
It has dawned on me that it has been a whole year since "This "Began" and what a ride! First off I would like to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year!!! I hope you are well and had a fair wind and following seas type of season on and off the water.
Well Ill begin at the transom I know it is bad karma if you change a preexisting name on any boat but---Jackal wasn't working for me. So I sanded and cleaned and primed and coated the whole boat.Sanded cleaned and varnished and sanded and vanished etc.etc. all the bright work that was serviceable. All the toe rails I sailed on for the season and removed this fall and made new ones out of iroko wood. Iroko is poor mans substitute for teak but it looks and finishes as good or better than teak.Like any wood it will last as long as you maintain it.I removed and replaced all the bulkheads with a meranti 1088 true marine grade 7 ply plywood no voids. All plywood was coated with several coats of thinned epoxy with sanding and cleaning with each coat. The epoxy coats got thicker as less and less solvents were used. Then the obligatory spar varnish over all after installing. Are you still with me??? After removing most, not all, the deck, hull, and cabin hardware,2 operating ports, rub railing, etc. I was ready to repair sand fair clean and paint the entire boat. With that little chore out of the way the "Abby Cat" (my daughter Abigail Catherine) was splashed on May 15 2011.Also repaired sails moved the outboard chainplates to inboard, made new deck and thru deck plates as when new, made a new tiller repaired the tiller head and rudder, all new shrouds and swageless fittings,I could go on but I believe you have the picture. I did take a bunch of pics. so if you are interested?? Oh yeah, the sailing was a bonus ,I couldn't be more thrilled. I went out and taught myself how to sail, all singlehanding, working the tides and currents and winds to the best advantage possible. Thanks Joe for the help and kind words.

Hello Shemlock. See "And so it begins" page 2 for chainplate locations as I have just gone out in minus 5 degrees and aquired the measurements from YOT. I have edited the post to include these measurements. I can also E-mail you the 27 manual but the lads were unable to convert the format to post online. PM with your E-mail and I will send them to you. And so it begins thread is my complete restoration of an Oday 27 which gives a look see at just about everything I am running across and the problems/successes I am encountering. It also contains many facts on the 27 and other Oday models provided by other Oday owners. Feel free to add your own insights there as you make new discoveries.
