I am looking at a 1973 Irwin 32 CC and thought I might ask the opinions of anyone on the list who has one of these boats. I would really like to know of any problems that one of these boats might have..besides being neglected etc. I see that the ballast is only about 30% of total weight....how stiff are they in a fresh breeze? Any info I can get would be appreciated! thanks anthony woody

Hull/deck connection

I have a 71 Irwin 32 so I can't answer about the stiffness for your model. The most annoying thing is leaks in the deck/hull seam and thru-deck stancions. Test it with a hose and a lot of water. The best thing is it is solidly overbuilt.

32.5 cc

I have a 1975 32.5 cc ketch. I purchased it in 1980 so thats 25 years now and still going strong. Any boat needs maintenance over the years, Which means rebeding the stancions and ports. The boat is stiff and will never let you down. Under 10 knots its a little slow, but when the winds 15 to 20 and everyone else is reefed your be under full sail. If you have any question just ask i will be glad to help. jake in NJ

I am looking at the same boat, and judging from the condition of the engine, would have a survey done of her. With Diesels, it's not the hours that ARE on the meter, it's the ones that AREN'T! This boat loves heavy air, and and sails real well to windward. She responds on the water, like a Lincoln or a Cadillac does on land... It's not a light-air boat. I would definitely pull everything out and look over all the wiring and plumbing, and bring it all up to code. Check and/or replace all through-hulls. I talked to the Brokerage, and they said the Sailcovers were pretty rough, and the dodger was ok, but the zipper wasn't working. I'd be interested to know what others think she would be worth...

Follow-up to earlier post.

According to the hour meter reading, this engine is about halfway to a MOH, and diesel overhauls are about twice what a gas would be. The manifold looks like it has to be taken off and inspected, along with the resevoir water tank. There is possibly internal corrosion to be dealt with. Otherwise it looks like a great boat!

Something I just found out...

The Sloop version of this boat is the only version listed in the NADA Boat Appraisal Guide, and it has an average Retail price of $10,350.00 and a low retail of $8,600.00 The 37' Sloop low retail is $15,850 and the average retail is $19,100.00 thought this might help...
