1972 Catalina Sailboat check

Keel, particularly if it is a swing keel. check cable and all moving parts for keel. Mast rigging is of great importance as well. After that it is all about safty. Look at Tiller/Rudder connections, and for leaks near the battery area and keel bolt area.---Beau

Casey wrote a good book called "Inspecting the Aging Sailboat". Worth the $15.

1972?

1972? Check everything. From stem to stern, top to bottom. Take the outboard for service, whether it needs it or not. Clean the fuel tank and inspect the fuel lines. Lift the floorboards and inspect for stress cracks and water. Check the keel bolts for rust and play. Check the rigging with a tension guage and visually insect all fittings for bends, cracks, corrosion, missing pins. Inspect the shroud support tie rods for tension. Climb the mast and check the halyard and topping lift(if a 22 has one) cables, lines, pulleys, fly, antenea, rigging. Inspect the sails for rips and consistency. They should crackle a little. If they are soft or flimsy then they're toast. Check running lines for chafe and rot. Check electrical lines for rustcorrosion or peeling insulation. Check all connectors and breakers for same. Test lights and electronic gear. Inspect the bottom for damage, good paint, rudder integrity, keel - look for crack in front- and any blistering. Inspect the deck for sagging or pliable fiberglass. Inspect the joint for coming away or damage or leaks. Inspect the mast step for sagging and leaks. Ensure safety gear is complete, operational and unexpired per Coast Guard regs. Everything else in cosmetic.
