I just purchased a nice Oday 192 and have sailed it a couple times and really like it a lot.I am pretty new to sailing and was wondering if adding a boom vang would help performance a little bit.I cant seem to get good tension on the sail.I think a stretched sail might be part of the problem but it seems like a boom vang would help.Anybody added one to there 192? Thanks Mike

get a vang

I speak from experience on my 1974 Oday daysailer II only. I added a vang and immediately noticed that on a broad reach to a run, I never had the boom kick up and increase sail twist, like it did before. It was much more stable. On a beam reach, I could keep the boom down, and reduce twist, giving me an even faster speed with less bouncing in the gusts. I don't think it made any difference on a close reach, but then again, I don't think it was supposed to. I don't see a lot of posts from 192 owners, and it is one of the boats, (along with a mariner) that I would consider moving up to eventually. What year is your 192, and how does it differ from the mariner? If you have pictures, please consider corresponding off list to my e-mail address roger02@mb.sympatico.ca
