The 170 will most likely be the boat I buy. I'm thinking about the Honda 2hp 4 stroke. My question is, can you trailer the boat with the engine on the bracket? Or must you remove the engine and store it when your trailering.

Always Off

I always remove the engine. Mostly cause don't know how much jarring the bracket mounts can take. Better safe than sorry! Joe

Leave it off

I agree with Joe, the bracket mounting is not strong enough to take the jarring. I fashioned a motor bracket with treated lumber that I attached under the trailer winch. Now I don't have to mess with putting the engine in the car. Drove to FL and back, worked great!

I take mine off

I do like Edwin. I fabbed a bracket to hang the motor on the trailer. Jerry

motor bracket

Edwin and Jerry - great idea! Jerry, thanks for the photo, I am going to try that when I get a motor next year. I can't quite see from the photo how you attach the 2x4 to the mast brace. Can you reveal your secret?

take it off

We have a Honda 2hp, 4stroke on our 170. We never travel with it on. Plus it is very expensive, if you leave it on, for someone to easily take on your boat/trailer. Lock it somehow if you are doing the bracket thing. They are hot to take.

Bolted to the winch

David, I mounted it using the two bolts that hold the winch. It's actually more than a 2x4. It's a piece of 1.5x3 galvanized "U" channel with a short piece of 2x4 inserted into it to give the motor clamp something to hang on to. The "U" channel bolts to the winch bolts. Works pretty well and is heavy enough to support my Honda next year. Jerry
