I had one for nine plus years. Terrific boat. And, yes, it is the same rig layout as a Freedom. However, it would be way wrong to assume the jib is passive. I was really taken by how much the slot it provided added to performance. There is a degree of overlap that I'm told doesn't work well on fractionally rigged boats. About 135 as I recall. But I don't think that's a universal truth and certainly there are a lot of fractionally rigged racers that use 150's and more in lighter airs, so I'm reluctant to disgard the notion. I think the best course for him is to talk to the guy who's done it and raced and cruised with it for a few years. If it were me, I'd look favorably on something in the 125-135 range in a strong laminate that would hold it's shape so you could continue to use her with a reefed main. Rick D.
