150 Genoa or Geniker ?

The 240 is a very slow boat in light wind , 4 ~ 8 knots. I'm about the last boat across the finish line when the wind is light. I do OK in 10~ 20 knots. So , I'd like to add a asymetrical spinaker, or a 150 Genoa. I don't get penalized with the 150, but I do with the geniker. Has anybody ever done this on a 240 ? Respon here , or send me an email with info and photos , if available.

240, light air

Ron, dont know what boats your racing, but we don't have any trouble beating up on anything under thirtyfour feet when the wind lays down. Try easing off and powering up the sails. Carl h240 Relentless

I have the same issue with a 23.5 . . .

My crew thinks our problem may be the skipper . . .but we use both an asymetrical and symetrical spinnaker when racing. In general I recommend the symetrical. I have hoisted the asym in light air and performed significantly better than with the jib alone. The issue on the 23.5 and the 240 is that a 150 sheets must be ran outside the shrouds . . .if you try to sheet it in the shrouds will get in the way. We race with a bunch of jboats and usually do not place too well . . .I hope the skill of the crew will improve.

New Asym Spinnacker with ATN Sock

Recently added a Doyle Asym. crusing chute with ATN Sock to my Hunter 1997 23.5. The down wind performance wing on wing is easy and we exceeded 6.5 Knots in a ten Knoot breeze. In light air, trim up to a close reach is attainable with an adjustable down haul. Using the ATN sock is a joy and very quick. Regards: JIM DURRETT (dirtyjim@charter.net)

I AGREE WITH THE FIRST POST. WE KICK BUT IN LIGHT AIR WITH OUR H240. OFF WIND RAISE THE BOARD FOR ADDED SPEED. IF YOU RACE WINWARD LEEWARD COURSE GET A WHISKER POLE. I REAL LIGHT AIR SIT TO LEWARD TO GET THE BOAT TO SLIGHTLY HEEL. THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE SAILS FULL AND REDUCE AMOUNT OF DRAG. ALSO MOVE CREW FORWARD. NEVER LET ANYONE SIT IN THE STERN RAIL SEATS. HOPE THIS HELPS. IF YOU ARE WINNING IN HEAVIER CONDITIONS YOU SHOULD CLEAN UP IN THE OVERALL STANDINGS BECAUSE THIS IS A GOOD LIGHT AIR BOAT.
