I have a 170 and a friend has just bought a topping lift 146. Is there any reason why the 146 can not have a topping lift? Lowering the sail should not be followed by being bonked on the bean.

Topping Lift
No reason not to have a topping lift. However, I found it very difficult to adjust the height of the boom while sailing using the topping lift. So I added a boom kicker instead. So have the rest of the 170 owners in our club. Works great and is very easy to adjust while underway. More money than a topping lift but much more affective. Brian Check out this link.
