Subject: [AlbinVega] Re: 130% genoa size
The use of percentage can be confusing. It all depends on how the genua is being
cut. Normally percentage is used according to the J meassurement (Distance from
the front stay at deck to front of mast). All depending on the cut of the genua,
(low or high) it might have different meassurements.
The percentage can also be compared to area of front triangle. (forestay, mast
and deck)
An examle is that the Genuas that Peter and I have are both being called 120% by
their sailmakers. They have the same luff and leach, but mine is 1´(30cm) longer
in the bottom. I think Peters is a 120% genua compared to J meassurement and
mine is a 120 compared to fronttriangle area.
If using the J meassurement, mine would be a 125% genua.
Confusing, yes, but it doesnt matter when you´re out there and you like your
genua.
What are the measurements that the two sailmakers have given you (luff, leach,
bottom and area) ?
