Well I never looked at the Amp draw on my new 32" Magnavox :banghead:. It sucks down my house batteries in about 3 hours. I now can only use it with genset or shore power. It is for the Admiral and NFL games anyway. If I need movie/tv on battery, I use my 17" Mac Book Pro with Apple TV.

We normally did a battery charge, use microwave for breakfast/dinner, cool down refrigerator in a ≈2 hour time. With at 32" running, it takes double that time.

Your newer 32" LED TVs draw approximately 85 watts. At 120V that is about 0.71 A but at 12V that converts to approximately 7.1 A and if using an inverter the draw would be approximately 8.15 A. Walmart and Amazon have a Smart 32" Samsung for $188.

What do you use for a signal? Do you have wifi on the boat?

I have an Apple TV
http://www.apple.com/apple-tv/entertainment/
http://www.apple.com/apple-tv/specs/
which is HDMI and uses
a very small and portable WiFi hot spot which serves my internet up to ≈15 miles offshore.
https://www.att.com/devices/netgear/unite.html#sku=undefined which was free from ATT.

I also wirelessly send the stereo sound to my built in cabin speakers (OEM) via the audio out on the Magnavox TV using a blue tooth Transmitter and a matching blue tooth Receiver on the Auxiliary input of the stereo system.

Wah Lah total stereo HD 1080P system for the Admiral.;)

I can also do the same with the Admiral's iPad (hot spot) WiFi.

But she doesn't like me running her iPad up the pennant line to get the ≈15 mile offshore reception.

I have read the threads on boat WiFi and was puzzled why so complex, until I realized they were looking for Free WiFi internet from local fast food joints. I do have to recharge my ATT Unite about every 8 hours.
Jim...

PS: Total cost for 32" TV, Teak backer panel, adjustable mounting bracket, Blue Tooth Devices, Apple TV, cables, etc... <$300 All done with remote controls.

Ever thought of using cellular data to stream TV instead of wifi? It's a lot safer than public wifi, free or not, and carriers now offer humongous data packages for a reasonable price. It's the only thing I use on my phone or tablet when I'm not at home.

Craig makes a 12v 32" TV but it is pricey. I use only 12v TV's in my boat and RV to not use outside AC power. I have a solar DC system (RV and boat) that provides much amps. My RV uses a Craig 19" and a 24" DC TV w/ boat having 15" Craig. For a trailerable boat such as mine I use an antenna system that uses a 360* ant/amp. that I designed to use sail slides and it is hoisted up the mast. Antenna then easily is removed for mast lowering. Happy Holidays! Chief

CY: Jenson makes them as well. Go on Amazon and they have at least the Jensen 32 for a little over 400. Chief

Yeah
Narrowing it down to Jensen but maybe will go with the majestic they adv. that their tvs are marine rated. Thats what i was looking for here is anyone that can comment on the marine rating of their product?? the specs say even the 32inch only uses 40 watts of power...Amazing if true

Can't comment on marine ratings but Craig and Jenson are supposed to be ruggedized for automobile use. Having said that; I fail to see that as justifiable reasoning for such high prices. Having spent my professional life in electronics it can't cost much extra to mount parts firmly. Chief

Wait. Don't most electronics have a transformer that steps that 120v A/C down to 12v D/C? In which case you could get inside, bypass the transformer, and just go direct to 12v, removing any efficiency loss of the transformer. Seems to me cruisers would be doing this all the time. But I'm not an electrical engineer...

I have a 12 volt Sole t.v. which runs off my battery system. Never had a problem with drainage. Also, because it's an inexpensive t.v. with no bluetooth, I bought a 12v, tunable, f.m. trasnmitter ($12) which plugs into earphone jack and connects to boat's Bose system.

Brian S: I wish it was a simple access to the 12v step down ckt but usually is not due to intergrated ckt boards. Another point is it is not 12v very often anymore. If it was easy we would have done it already! Chief

Nope, not usually 12V. For instance the transformer on the Dell computer I'm using to type this message steps the voltage down to 19.5V.

@rgranger - that link doesn't work, even when I type it manually.

Edit: I see the problem, no ".com" extension. And ninja'd.
