hi all , I have a few ?? for a 12 v water system. I am soon ready to tackle the fresh water system in my boat. I currently have only a foot pump in the galley sink area. First is shurflow a good pump, and do they have some kind of pressure switch internal so it will work with my existing galley faucet. Does it mount ahead of the foot pump do I need to bypass the ft pump completely?? Red

Most fresh water pumps nowadays are internally regulated, it'll say so in their literature.
I think it may pump water through your manual pump, as all they are is a diaphragm, and two check valves, both of them oriented in the direction of flow. You'll probably have better luck putting the electric pump between the foot pump, and your water tank, as most electric pumps tend to be better pushers than pullers. If it were me, I'd just do away with the foot pump altogether. It's simpler, Shurflo, or Jabsco, etc. are notoriously reliable pumps, and without a pump for the sink in a catastrophic failure, we're not talking about a survival at sea situation.
You may want to consider an accumulator tank as well. It will work fine without it, but it'll keep the pump from cycling on and off so much, ie:longer pump life, and less noise.
One more thing. Try and use an isolater of some sort, rubber etc. between the pump and a hard surface in the boat. You'll hear that thing every time it runs.

Wouldn't put it upstream of the diaphragm pump because the pressure could rupture the diaphragm of the older pump.. If you want to keep the foot pump for a backup, install the new one parallel to the old.. that is, put a tee in the suction and one in the discharge of the existing pump and hook the new one to that.. The new one's pressure will be stopped by the discharge check valve of the old one .. should work fine..

Thanks guys I have a better understanding after reading posts and the west system diagrahm. I figured the pump would have to go, but I think I might even be able to tee and valve it, like a bypass loop, thanks for the input, goal this winter is a shower sump, fresh water pump, for shower and galley, and also fresh water for flush head Inow have seawater, and was told fresh water is better because of all the organisms in salt water. My toilet gets it fresh water from the sink drain with a 3 way valve on it so one position the sink goes overboard and the other position into the toilet water supply......no more stinky toilet from sea water

Alright Stu I see what u are talking about, so until I plunb my shower and bath sink in I have to either live with it or keep a jug of fresh water with a little say dawn soap in it, and drop the intake into it and flush well b-4 I leave the boat, correct?? Red

Yes, but use Odorlos for the head last flush of the day, not dish soap, where'd that come from?

In the link, Peggie explains the differences between KO and Odorlos.

Try again? :):):)

WAIT, WAIT!!! It might be in another link. Give me a moment.

Try this. Sorry.

I apologize, had been over-reading links the past few days and had just added this to my "list" on our 101 Topics on our C34 Board and confused the two.

A lot of boats use pressurized water systems with household sink taps. That is OK for a RV trailer but not for a boat. I would not want all of my water pumped quickly into the bilge because of a small water leak. Fresh water is a lot harder to find when you are on a boat then when in a RV on the side of the road.

I use the KISS (Keep It Simple Sailor) principle. I installed a simple 12 volt 1 gpm water pump as normally used on an electric faucet below the water tank (they are not self priming) and before the manual flipper pump at the galley sink. The electric pump has no problems pushing the water through the flipper pump and the flipper pump has no problems sucking the water through the electric pump. I use a three-position push/pull switch mounted next to the sink and wired so that pushed in/down it is OFF, mid-position is MOMENTARY ON with a pushbutton switch mounted at knee height and full up is CONTINUOUSLY ON (not normally used except to fill a large pot).

Stu this is allnew to me b-4 this season I had no chemicals to worry about at all. I think I am going to continue with the Raritan KO at least till its done, and try a mix of it with fresh thru the head when i leave for the weekend as u suggested. When I lay up for the winter I am going to re plumg the shower sump head sink with pressure and maybe even hot water well see, thanks for your help all.... Red
