Hi.

I'm looking to replace my old 1156 cabin light bulbs.

I've read that they are lower wattage and give our higher lumens?
Is this true?

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good brand?

Thanks

I just upgraded my boat to LED cabin lights. Just remember polarity is reversed on an LED. Polarity in irrelevant to an incandescent bulb. I had a few fixtures that were reversed (good for LED) other I had to switch around. The base is positive and the center is negative on the LED. Standard wiring on incandescent lights is for the base to be negative but they work regardless. If the light doesn't work, just take off the fixture and reverse the wiring.

I agree with looking at the site first.. but these guys: https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/s-series-bulbs/filter/Base_Type,1156,1,40: have a bigger selection and you can get bulbs the are "front firing" as would be used in a spotlamp , or an all around type bulb that might be used in a lantern type fixture.. There are a couple of things to look for.. 1 ya need around 100 lumens (bright measure) or more, 2 ya need warm white color around 3000K , and 4 ya need a wide voltage tolerance so they'll work with 11 volts or when the engine is charging, around 15 V.. Most of the good LEDs will work on 10 to 30 volts dc..
I converted several years ago and really like that they provide a great bright light at about 6 times less current usage. I have two reading lamps , 4 festoon lamps, 5 eyeball lamps, and two cabin overheads.. For the overheads, I splurged and got the ones that are red or white..
