While resolving a clogged issue with our head, we discovered that the holding tank or piping has no vent which seems odd.
We chased down the piping and looked all over and can't find any indication of one. Are missing something?

Understand what the vent does, should be one for the waste holding thank but does not appear to be one in the system. Perhaps was removed by the PO, which would not surprise us.

My dad's boat did not have a separate vent on the holding tank. It had two holes drilled in the cap for the pump-out fitting to allow the tank to breathe.

Does your tank behave like it has a vent? (i.e. wafter using the head a few times, is there pressure built up in the tank or not?)

Also a pic or diagram f your tank showing all connections might be handy in trying to resolve your issue.

Cheers

My 9.2A came with a very strange holding tank set up. It had a five gallon tank that, while it had a small vent line (vented into the cabin!) it had no pump out connection. I guess you were expected to disconnected it and haul it to the nearest public toilet every second or third flush.

I replaced that whole system, installed a pump out, vented it to a spot outside the head, and added a charcoal filter to the vent line. That filter seemed to make a huge difference in making the whole boat a lot less malordorous. I still don't have a lot of holding tank capacity, so I'm toying with trying one of those pricey composting units. Since the Livingston family is world-renowned in its ability to put off pit stops, there hasn't been enough need to justify the boat buck required.
