If I could get a "100 amp hour deep cycling 12 Volt battiers " for $25 would that be a good deal? Also would one of these battiers be enough to power my Macgregor for a while or do I need something stronger? Thanks for your help? Alex

I highly recommend

That you DO NOT skimp on battery(ies). WalMart has good deep cycle batteries. I use two of them in my Lancer. As far as "enough to power my Mac...", it depends on what you electrical requirements are. If you are day sailing and running say autopilot, radio, depth sounder, and knotlog, probably. If you are on an extended cruise, then probably not.

might be

That's almost too good a price! As Brian said, figure out what your expected electrical needs would be on a typical cruise to run the stuff you typically would use. That will give you the only realistic answer. As far as a 100 amp battery, that will provide a MAX of only 50 amp-hrs before it should be recharged as you never want to draw down a deep-cycle battery more than 50% or you'll kill it prematurely.

Thats a very good pricea

assuming it's a new battery. If used, I would probably pass, as even if it is fairly new, you do not know how it was used or maintained. The lure of saving a few dollars often times leads to added expense. Others are correct on power needed. You need to figure you power draw and usage of the boat. You can get 225 ah of golf cart batteries at Sams Club for about 130 bucks.

Something wrong with that price.

Alex: I think that there may be something wrong with the price. If you could find a new battery for deep cycle/marine battery $65 today, it would be a good deal. You may be talking about a used battery. The question is HOW used is it?

Used battery

I would pass on any used battery, at any price. Some things used are fine, and can be a bargain, but I don't think a battery would fall into that category. That is just too much of an unknown to depend on. You can buy a 115ah deep cycle brand new at Wally World for around 65 bucks. The Wally World batteries have an 18 month free replacement warranty. No questions asked. Or you can buy two golf cart batteries at Sams Club for about the same price each.

ah! probably $23.50 left in the battery.

Alex: People should be giving you a used battery not selling them to you. You really have no idea what you are getting so as other have suggested, just purchase a new one. Now whether you decide to take our advice or your own you need to evaluate your charger. If you don't have a good charger, you may want to buy the used battery until you have a good 3 stage charger.
