I have a 2003 Hunter 326 without the factory windlass and want to install one. I looked at a 326 with factory installed Simpson-Lawrence vertical windlass which does a 180 degree turn and empties horizontally out the front. Apparently, this was a custom made windlass for the 326 (curses inserted here). Most everything on the market now makes a 90 degree turn and has a vertical drop. There is very little room in the anchor locker.
Anyone know how I can do this or what brand/model windlass will fit?
Bought a Lewmar Pro 700H (horizontal) and was thinking about machining a stainless steel mounting bracket and running chain down through the 3" narrow slot between the existing front edge of the mounting plate and the front of the boat (v berth). Worried that this is not enough room and will not be a straight vertical drop.
