boom height

On a hunter 170 2002 i am wondering can you lower the gooseneck on the mast so the boom and the sail will be lower. I am thinking this would help stabilize the boat and keep heeling down? I realize I would now have to duck when I tack etc.. but I think it would be a good trade off. Any ideas on...
