1992 h28 shifter cable replace

I've recently replaced my throttle and shifter cables that were ordered from this web site. We had to drop the binnacle to do the job. Once adjusted properly, after a few movements of the shifter, it stops going into forward gear. I don't want to drop the binnacle again if there's a work...
