Transducer or Ballast Plug?

Hunter 260 Lake Pontchatrain
Hi Hunter owners! I recently bought a fixed wing keel 1999 Hunter 260. Very excited to get more sailing miles under my belt and have been going through my list to get her up to speed. One question I have for anyone who owns a similar bought, what is this screwed plug right before the V Berth near the bilge. In front of the compression post. Is this an old thru hull transducer?

Previous comments are correct. It is a blank plug... note the absence of any connectors...that allows one to remove the paddle wheel speed transducer for cleaning and stowing when not in service. The paddle wheel needs to be cleaned quite often, especially if you leave in in while the boat sits unused. The real transducer will look almost identical with the addition of firmly connected wiring. There may or may not be an exterenal flap that snaps shut when the plug/transducer is removed... slows the water ingress down a bit, but if not you'll still only see a few cups of water.... as long as you're quick (Heh, Heh).

Looking at your pictures it appears you could use the thing as a drain plug also. Handy if you trailer the boat and always rememver to check it before next launch.

Thanks for solving my mystery! I’ll most likely glass over it when I get her hauled out in a few months. One less hole in a boat
As long as it's not leaking there's no reason to make covering it over a priority. What you will want to do at your next haul out is to pull the plug and inspect the casing, and the plug itself. There will be a couple of rubber seals to inspect on the plug, and check to see who well the 5200 sealant is holding up around the rim... 5200 is a polyeurethane product that is difficult to remove.. although there is a chemical product that supposedly makes that chore easier. Good luck with which ever direction you go.

Looking for a blank plug to have on hand as a spare. Any tips on how to find one?
