have a jabsco marine head with the electric flush retrofit. All pipes and hoses are clear and pump is working fine with water but it will not take solids. Quite frustrating to the point of upgrading to another brand . Thought on brands that actually work as intended. Thanks

A little more information would go a long way towards solving this problem. e.g.

1. Has the lack of taking and passing solids always been a problem?

2. What do you hear and see when the pump will not pass solids ?

3. @sailme88 pretty well sums up the entire problem in one short statement. Have you had the pump apart to inspect the vanes ?

4. And do you have a manual for the head ?

We have had four Raritan Marine Elegance heads (different boats), and I think they will pass a tennis ball. Never had any concern or issue with solids.

ironically the opening in a Jabsco joker valve is bigger than in the Raritan. Raritan however, is superior rubber. They are interchangeable, regardless of which brand of head you have

The joker valve is after the macerator, so size shouldn't matter with the problem the OP is having not being able to suck from the bowl.

Problem flushing may be due to a blocked or partially blocked tank vent. If air displaced by incoming waste can't escape, the tank becomes pressurized, creating back pressure that prevents bowl contents from flushing. Another strong possibility: you aren't adding water to the bowl ahead of solids. "Dry" flushing solids creates friction in the bowl. If your toilet isn't designed to bring water ahead of flush, use a cup from the sink.
And finally...if your "upgrade" is the one that just replaces the manual pump with an electrified pump, even Jabsco will tell you it's a piece of junk. If you want an electric toilet, replace everything south of the bowl with a proper pump/motor assembly.
And btw...the macerator is just a metal blade IN a toilet or macerator PUMP, similar to one in blender.
