I have 3 bilges the first one has the pump the second one has I will call it a weeping hole.
It seems to the third one is not connected to the others.
If I get water I have to use the emergency hand Bible pump.
This doesn’t seem right to..
BTW this is the second season that I own this boat.

Thank you in advance
Pat

What year/model is this?
Seems kind of a poorly thought out early version of a grid design, but not thinking about practical matters like this.
I want to correlate back to the original architect.

It does seem that the should all be connected with a limber hole (weep hole).

What is in the bottom of this middle bilge? It looks like the bottom is filled with something…. Could the limber hole be covered up?

What are all of those hoses in the one that isn’t connected? The manual bilge intake….but what else? Seems like a lot of hoses in there.

I agree with Greg. I have a very similar bilge arrangement (3 compartments) and they are interconnected with a limber hole between each compartment. I suspect that the limber hole between the middle compartment and the aft compartment is plugged with something. It might be an optical illusion, but it almost looks like there is some sort of "waxy" substance in that center bilge?

Although there are sometimes design boo-boo's that frustrate us in most boats, I can't really believe a designer would intentionally have a bilge (other than one that might catch and contain oil) that did not have a way for the water to move from the bilge to the automatic bilge pump.

I'm sorry to say that our 2004 H306 has a shallow "false bilge" just aft of the main, deep bilge, which doesn't drain to anyplace useful. It does in fact fill up with water from time to time (from a rainwater leak somewhere), and I have to sponge it out. I agree that this seems like a very dumb design, and I can't explain why they did this.

Are you the original owner? If not, it's possible that at one point the ship had a grounding, and the stub / grid was repaired. They may have forgotten to re-drill the drain hole between the sections.

How is water getting into that center section?? Hard to tell which is is fore and aft in the photos. Is the water coming from the keel bolts, from the shaft seal (packing needs maintenance?) or from elsewhere (shower drain pump ? fridge drain?)

The owner's manual shows the shower drain going into the aft section, and the bilge pump being in the mid section. Based on that diagram, I surmise there should be flow between all sections.

Did your surveyor inspect the grid with a camera? Is there any evidence of grid/stub repair (different coloured paint / fresh paint or gelcoat?) A repaired grid / stub is no reason for concern. usually when rebuilt, they are stronger than original.

Dry everything out with a sponge and then take a better look.

PS. I personally don't care for pumps with integrated float switch. I prefer a seperate switch I can test from time to time.
