Looking aft and up at the load bearing header that supports the mast. Originally the 3/4" bulk head had bolted to this header for vertical compression. I installed 3x3" oak studs on either side of the doorway for support and only a 1/2" thick plywood bulkhead.
The void in the middle is the mast base. Originally, they had a block of hard wood in there. Later, after I re-laminated the cabin ceiling I drilled a hole into this void from the top and filled with a fiber impregnated epoxy mix from west marine systems.
lower layer of glass cut away from the cabin roof for re-lamination. Much of the balsa core had to be chiseled away from the upper layer since not all of it was rotted. That turned out to be a much bigger job than I anticipated. The bottom of the top layer of glass needs to be pretty smooth when bonding the divinycell up to it.
Main bulkhead ripped out where head used to be.
I wished the carpet backing and glue came off as easy as the carpet.
