Maybe seeing metal, rather than the plastic through hulls is more comforting than plastic...although, I've seen some plastic through hulls at West Marine that I was told were Lloyd's of London approved.

Maybe seeing metal, rather than the plastic through hulls is more comforting than plastic...although, I've seen some plastic through hulls at West Marine that I was told were Lloyd's of London approved.

Emergency bilge is the larger one to the left. The middle is the bilge pump through hull and the right one is the exhaust. ON windy conditions on San Diego Bay a few days ago while motoring, those three through hulls were often just under water.
 
Note the cockpit drain through hull on the starboard side (one is on the port side as well). They are below the water line when the boat heels over.
