August 25 2013 (5) I had this looking brand new in 2003. It's badly in need of sanding and re-varnishing. The rub rails also need caulking. I was told to use 5200 but someone else said never use 5200 as I'd never be able to remove the rub rails if I had to.

August 25 2013 (3) By using #60 grit, I made deep grooves in the wood. uh oh!!! I have to go back and use a high # today but all I have it #100, 120, and 150. I'm not sure what I have to do.

Working on Sailyn Kaelyn

Sanding down the gunwales and need advice. I did this job in 2003 and used Cetol varnish ($38 a quart) and a top gloss. I apllied 7 coats of varnish. Now it has to be re-done. I used a palm sander #60 grit and it placed deep grooves in the teak. I am assuming its teak.
