No more sail drive. Every time I look at the back of the keel i think about making the trailing edge a little more tapered to stop the eddy behind it and maybe gain an 1/8 of a knot. I wonder if anyone else has ever done that.

All original. I should have painted the shifter when i had the control out for servicing. Another one of those thousand little things i still need to do. I plan at some point to replace that plastic inset panel with a homemade stainless one. I also need to make a shifter stick. I'm thinking about using a chrome skull for the knob:)

The fuel line pulls from the tank through a back fill preventer barb. This was an few extra bucks but it should stop me from having the fuel drain out of the line and having to squeeze the primer several hundred times before starting.

Those 2 skinny black cables are the engine control cables. I ran them along the bottom of the cockpit sole and then right up to the bottom of the controller. I still need to strap the tank down. Not sure how to tie the original stainless straps together yet though. Another one of those thousand little things i need to still do.

The water stainer/filter and the backside of the engine mount. I used Starboard on either side of the transom for aditional strength and to protect the gel cote on the outside.

The new 19 gal fuel tank all setup. I had to move the original fill fitting because new tank had the fill line off to one side and fuel fill hose is darn near impossible to bend very much. And yes, i did order some flexible hose from summit but still couldn't get it to bend as far as i needed so i had to put the fuel fill just about in the middle of the cockpit sole. That white pipe is a new pvc drain line for the sink. The previous owners used garden hose (for just about everything).

The inside of the original controller. I had to buy new cables but the originals from the sail drive would have worked just fine if they were 8" longer. Please don't critique my wiring. Its only temporary. I have to do a complete rewire of the entire boat in the next month or so.

I decided to put the primer bulb on the outside because i'd rather have it leak outside than in, and its the only reason to have to lean over the back other than lift and lower the motor. I also ran the cables through a thru hull cable fitting form West Marine. I think it costs about 15 bucks. The end can be cinched up with a zip tie.

Setup to be completely controlled from the cockpit with shift and throttle cables as well as a choke cable. The choke cable is just an accessory cable i rigged up. OMC does not provide a remote kit for this. The problem it presented was that the cable end had to be clamped down in order to work. I originally set out to design and make a bracket for this but after some thought I decided to just clamp it with some hose and hose clamps to the shift cable which is stationary. seems to work ok for now.

The repower

Removed the old saildrive mount ring form the hull and glassed in the hole. Found a used stainless outboard bracket for 30 bucks and an 87' Yactwin 9.9 that wasn't running for dirt cheap. Replaced the power pack which fixed the not running thing. Rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the water pump and changed out the lower gear case oil. Compression is right at 120 on both. The motor starts right up after weeks of sitting.
