Having just completed a sailing course given on a lake at the sight of the 1964 World's Fair in Queens, NYC, I impulsively bought a 1978 O'Day 22 off of Craig's List for $500 (including outboard) with a friend's go-ahead (he was a former sailboat owner). This was in Sept., 2013. I did not know exactly what I was getting myself into, as the boat, though it looked a little rough around the edges, seemed to be seaworthy.
I soon discovered this website, and started reading and learning about what I needed to do to make Kanhoji safe (it wasn't) and more presentable. I learned a lot by reading of many topics, learned about Rudy from D&R, and in particular I was inspired by the late Joe Alvarez' (Trinkka) posts and photos. I had never done any of the kinds of work needed to put an old boat into shape, but Joe and many other forum members showed that it was possible. I also picked up Don Casey's books, which have been enormously helpful and encouraging.
In the 2 Northeast coast sailing seasons that I've owned my O'Day 22, I've managed to make many improvements, and I took some photos along the way. I thought that it could be helpful to other new (and maybe a few veteran) members along the way if I showed what someone without mechanical or nautical experience could do in this regard.
