I was surprised to find that a LOT of Jet Skis explode -- not always without injury to the rider.
Looking at the "bilge" under the engine, I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

Gasoline fumes are heavier than air and any fuel leak will cause them to flow and concentrate into a low spot in the hull where they can be ignited by a stray spark with explosive results. I'm surprised manufacturers have not come up or be required to have a fan to vent gases outside the hull before the engine can be started. That kid got to learn how an astronaut feels on blast off.
Being that it's a jet ski - I'd label that a feature, not a bug.
Nice to see every one jumping in to rescue the driver NOT!!!
