I own an 8 year old Catalina 34 mark 2. The mast head (anchor light) has failed. The electrician informs me that the positive cable running up the compression post is white and the positive cable inside the mast (inspected at the mast head) is red and is dead. He suspects there is a join in the cables immediately above the deck. The obvious but most expensive way to repair is to lift the mast. Has anybody experienced this problem and fixed with an alternative method. We thought about drilling a hole (say 1-1.5 inch) in the side of the mast and hooking the cable out -then sealing with a plate tapped and screwed on. This may not work however if the cable is in a conduit. Any ideas or practical experience would be appreciated. David R
