We have a court ruling on the tax status

I just got word from the club that the judge ruled in our favor. The school district was arguing that our floating docks were taxable real estate, the judge ruled that they were not. The next step is up to the school district, they can still come back with another assessment based on the ruling or they can pack up, go home and accept the original assessment. While that would raise our taxes from $5K to more like $20K we would accept that.

It's not totally unlike issues here in Maine, where wealthy landowners (often recent transplants 'from away') are trying to shut off access to beaches and the seashore that have been publicly accessible for generations of locals.
