I called Catalina Yachts and they said they'd look it up
and call me back. I don't know what the WA dept of
Lic will do with just the number, but we'll see.
Someone said my number will be something like:
CTYN1049M78__
CTY= Catalina Yachts
N="Number"
1049= number in order of boats built
M=tells the Coast Guard "this is a boat"
78= year built (but could be wrong, may be 77)
__=month built, starting with A-August, B-September, C-October, etc. Don't know this info.

We'll see if they come up with something.

Catalina did call me back but said that all the
records from that year were lost in a fire, sorry.
I went to a marina and found a 1979 Cat 30 and looked
on the transom and there was a number, very very
faint 1/2 inch down from the rub rail, and about 5
inches in from the edge, upper right in 1/2 inch letters.
This boat had been painted and much of the number was
obscured. Catalina said that for sure there would
be a number on my boat in that location. I'm pretty
sure that my boat's transom has never been painted,
or if so, they did a spectacular job. I'm having
someone look at the transom again to see if they
can see the number.
Gave my sister a power of attorney. We'll see what
happens.

Where is your boat Jong? Bremerton? Maybe your sister can use paper and pencil to do a rubbing of the number. The location you mention is the same one for boats of my boats.

Okay, I got my new title in the mail.
They wouldn't let us pay at the DOL office
for renewal, so I just now did it on line and it
worked.
I'm amazed nobody else here had to go through
all that.

All the older boats need the new numbers. It was simple at our courthouse licensing dept. We were issued a new title with both the old number and the new long number. You can write out your new numbers and just glue them on the transom. Instuction letter explains all your options.
