Universal M25 Question

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what the avg life span of a Universal M25 diesel in a Catalina (34)

In terms of engine hours, what is considered a lot for this engine? 1000, 2000, 10,000?

One of our C34 members replaced his after 5500 hours. My boat's a 1986 with 2400 + hours, still going strong.

M25s were installed on many other boats, C30s, Ericson 32s, O'Days, among others.

Why do you ask?

One of the "basics" of diesel engines:

a well cared for engine with higher hours is preferred over a neglected one with low hours.

Get an engine log from the PO. I keep one religiously. If he has, you're in good shape.

What year boat, that'd help us help you.

Does anyone klnow where I can get parts? I live in Ontario...I would like to have spare impellers and fan belts...the kind of things that I consider essential.

I bought the boat.

Check online for Marine Diesel Direct. They're a good source for Universal parts and service info. Also, if you have a local marine diesel service facility that handles sailboats, they are likely to be a good source for you.

Keeping spare impellers, belts, and fuel filters on board is wise, as you already know!

Universal M25 is a Kubota tractor engine - look for a Kubota dealer in Ontario
