Hi All;
I must remove my Transmission on my 88 C30, lucky for me I found a used Hurth on Craigslist 2 weeks ago, I am having that rebuilt, and will install that one. The boat will be in the water for this project. Any tips on getting the engine up and out of the way for the tranny swap?

Looking at a line drawing it looks like the transmission is inline with the motor. So your going to have to remove the motor to get to the transmission, correct? If so then one idea is to build a frame over the companionway using 4x4 lumber. Goal is to spread the load of the frame over the deck area. Stabilize the frame to the boat and use a block and tackle to raise the engine off the mounts. Put down a platform in the cabin to set it down on while you change out the transmission. Then reverse the process. Some folks use the boom and mast. Puts a lot of stress on the rig. Depending on the engine, could be over 400 lbs that the boom my not be designed to handle.
Engine moving is not for the faint of heart.
