    You can also use Ospho to stabilize the base oxide..

    It's a decent commercial formula including phosphoric acid that works pretty well in my experience. Very easy to apply. Then paint over it with a good paint as already mentioned.

    Google it, you can buy small quantities from Amazon among others...

    OK.. Here is what I did..... Began with 2 coats of Ospro. 2 Coats of Extend then 2 coats of Jim's first link of Rustoleum high temperature spray paint. Thought the color was a bit weird.. was expecting Navy Grey, however, it's all don... now moving down the shaft to get to the bronze before the dripless..... Thanks All -Jon

    BTW Jim.. The Admiral texted me from Lowes showing a Rustoleum Hi temp spray paint, which turned out to be your 2nd link.. I said.. nope not the one..... just get the other.... Oh well... Should always listen the the Admiral........
