INTRODUCING A NEW OPTION FOR REPORTING YOUR PLEASURE BOAT ARRIVAL TO CBP

Hello SVRS member,
It is our pleasure to announce that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is launching the CBP Reporting Offsite Arrival – Mobile (ROAM) app, a new way for pleasure boaters to report their U.S. entry in select locations nationwide! This app provides pleasure boaters with a convenient and efficient way to report their U.S. entry from a personal device, as opposed to calling their local CBP number. Please note: Float plans are no longer required, and the Small Vessel Reporting System (SVRS) is being discontinued in the coming months. A notice will be posted to the SVRS website with a specific date and thereafter all travelers will be directed to utilize the CBP ROAM app. Your SVRS, Local Boater, or Registered Traveler numbers will remain in effect and can be utilized and saved within the app to expedite reporting.

What is the CBP ROAM app?
The CBP ROAM app is a free mobile application that provides a new and faster option for pleasure boaters to report their U.S. entry to CBP. Travelers can use their personal smart device (or a tablet located at partner businesses) to satisfy reporting requirements in select areas. All travelers, regardless of nationality or citizenship, are eligible to use the CBP ROAM app.

Where can the CBP ROAM app be used?
Currently, the CBPROAM app can be used to report U.S. entry by pleasure boat in Florida, select locations in Minnesota, and in the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River area between Buffalo and Ogdensburg, NY. Additional locations are being added, and travelers should contact their local port of entry to confirm whether arrival submissions via the CBP ROAM app are accepted.​

So not only will they get your report they will get a GPS fix on your location. Pretty sneaky or smart I guess.

If we are cruising the Florida Coast, say no more that 15 miles of coast, would we need to report an entry into a transient marina?

Only if you dock or anchor in a foreign country.

In some cases yes.

Only if you dock or anchor in a foreign country.

Definitely if you dock, but the anchor not leaving the boat (no to shore visit) I think is considered on water Passage. This does not mean an eagle eyed CG, Sheriff, Mountie etc is going to miss the chance of checking you and your boat out.

Careful with that, there was a guy who had his boat impounded at Bedwell because he grabbed a ball and had some brekky before he checked in. Cost him something like a grand to get it back.

Glad I checked... Here is what the CBSA website states:

New Reporting Exemptions
The reporting requirements for private boaters have changed. You no longer need to report to the CBSA if you meet the reporting exemptions detailed below.

Reporting Exemptions
If you are visiting Canada, you are not required to report to the CBSA if you:

• do not land on Canadian soil and do not anchor, moor or make contact with another conveyance while in Canadian waters, and
• do not embark or disembark people or goods in Canada.

If you are returning to Canada, you are not required to report to the CBSA if you:

• did not land outside Canada and did not anchor, moor or make contact with another conveyance while outside of Canadian waters, and
• did not embark or disembark any people or goods while outside Canada.

PS: I was raised in LA and went to a LA University. LA is way foreign, Parishes vs Counties, Napoleonic Law, no land deeds and really good food. French Canadian heritage.

Kermit was born in a swamp in Greenville, MS. Jim Henson grew up in nearby Leland, MS. At least that’s what everything I’ve read says. I wish I could have met him.
