I recently purchased a Catalina 30 Tall Rig with a Bow Sprit. What is the preferred way to attach the mooring bridle to the bow cleats? The prior owner would run the mooring lines from the cleat, over the anchor rollers, then down to the ball. I am concerned this will put a lot of tension on the forestay/rig in a heavy chop. But by running them immediately overboard from the cleat, there is the risk of chafe from the bobstay. What advice can you offer. Thanks.

Boats are a compromise

Try rigging a bridle with a line from each side cleat forward to the ball.

Do not go through the bow sprit rollers. Just run two lines from the cleats to the mooring, with heavy duty clear viny hose on the pennants and rigging cover on the bob stay to further eliminate chafe.
