Mac 25 mast question

On my Mac 25 mast step, there are two holes. I have a bolt for the bottom hole to connect the mast, but I don't have anything for the top, and there isn't a hole in the mast for a bolt anyway.
What is the upper hole for?
Sorry, I am a newbie, and just bought this boat.

If you have the old-style tabernacle,

that's where you might put a through-bolt for trailering. Is there really no hole through your mast just above the spreaders?

I will have to look this weekend, as I am going to step the mast.
But that would make perfect sense.

The top hole is what I use to secure the mast while trailering.

There is a hole just below the spreaders. It looks to be slightly smaller than the hole on the bottom of the mast. But, I would assume that is the one to secure the mast to the (tabernacle?) while trailering.

Mine's just above the spreaders.
