Unlike last week when we had 15 knots in the Bay, last night we had 3 knots gusting to 4. In these conditions the asym boats downwind jibe angle is as wide as a upwind tacking angle, putting upwind and downwind boats on reciprocal courses. Wait for it.

I used to race spinnaker-equipped beach cats. Same thing, regarding jibe angles, but with well over 20 knots closing speed. Unnerving at times.

From the other side. Brendan was looking straight down at the pass, Said for a few seconds you could not see water between the boats, and only the opposite heel angles stopped up from touching. I know the other driver and trust him, but told him after the race if we would have touched in the slightest I would have protested him. Not a great time to do two spins!

That is pretty normal in our neck of the woods, we were just about to drop our anchor last week to stop the current from taking back across the start line, we decided to go swimming instead....
