Hello,

I'm another new owner of a 1989 Catalina 22. Everything is all wrapped and tied up still from transporting the boat. My hope is to take inventory of the rigging and practice raising the mast and fully rigging the sailboat this weekend on dry land. I still consider myself a novice after taking sailing lessons for over a year, so I'll be taking things slow.

Hoping fellow Catalina owners can point me to detailed resources and/or videos on rigging specific to the '22 along with any other advice.

I do have the Catalina owners manual which seems overly brief in certain places in terms of detail and lack of illustrations. I also ordered the Catalina Handbook from catalinadirect.com which I'm hoping is more comprehensive but it hasn't arrived yet.

Immediate items I'm looking to tackle:
- Raising mast (this looks fairly straightforward from videos I've seen), but I'll want to ensure shrouds and stays are attached properly and securely with correct tuning.
- This boat has a rolling furler. (For now my hope is to just ensure I raise it properly and attach it as the forestay for the mast. I'll worry about mechanics of running lines for the jib later. Baby steps.)
- Attaching and raising the boom (somewhat have an idea of what to do)
- Properly running mainsheet through all the blocks
- Rigging boomvang
- Attaching and flaking the mainsail

Thanks to all fellow Catalina owners who can point me in the right place and offer advice. Glad to be part of the club.

Rob

Decent, but if you're going all in on mechanical detail -- join the Catalina 22 association and grab the newly minted tech manual that comes with. @$tingy Sailor has some fine rigging threads, tons of posts on this forum as well.

As with many of the details in your thread, it may depend on your boat and you likely need to take inventory of what you have vs. what it was born with.

The handbook from Catalina Direct is mostly a catalog IMO. I was disappointed when I bought it.

As @pclarksurf says, the Catalina 22 National Sailing Assoc.'s Technical Manual (and this forum) are the best resources out there.

I'd get the technical manual first. It is amazing... Worth every $.
To get it, you need to be a Catalina 22 NSA member ($25 per year), then pay $15 download or $25 CD for the technical manual.

https://catalina22.org/index.php/2014-11-06-22-14-25/membership-4

Then read/browse it and compare with the forum.
Then ask for more details once you have a better idea.

For example.. check out this recent thread:
https://forums.sailboatowners.com/i...hing-the-boom-leads-to-more-questions.191841/

Like that thread... just feel free to post specific questions and photos as needed. We'll all be able to help once we see your boat. Keep in mind that these boats are old enough, most have be upgraded/customized.

I wasn't super impressed with it either.

With the above mentioned thread I was able to figure out pretty much everything I needed to rig my boat.
For the furler, the thing that help me understand it was watching the videos on youtube while looking at the manual.
if you have the Snapfurl CF500. Also watch the videos on the CF700, basically the same system but bigger/heavier duty.
