That would save the hassle of putting the pin stripes back on, you could always do that later if you felt it didn't look right.
Anyone ever removed the shear stripes on a H31?

I had the "pleasure" of removing them on my 84 37-c. The eraser wheel did the best job and followed it up with ez strip (Home Depot) and plastic razor blades. It did a good job, but is a lot of work. I posted a little of the job on the Hunter Owners Forum on Facebook, but I can't seem to figure out how to search for the link on the I-thing.
