Jodi and I are heading down. She's getting some R&R, I'm doing tactics on the FarEast28r. Anyone else going to be at Canyon Lake??

50 boats in the regatta, but only 3in PHRF spin! What is that?? Anyway we rock it, crushing my buddy Phillip in his Melges 24. With the discard, we score a perfect 5 for the regatta. Super light today, we connect the dots in the last race to do a horizon job on the fleet! Of 3.

melted 24? lol
Indeed! ;-)

While the fleet was small, it was fun, all asym sport boats. The melges was tough. Great in light airs but we still owe it 30 seconds a mile. The U20 is also a great little boat.. but it can’t be anywhere near us when we finish.

The big boat (32 feet +) non-spin fleet where on the same course, we would lap the entire fleet every race.

Very light winds. Probably the first regatta I’ve sailed on her where we never planned once.

We're there OD Spinnaker classes, or were there really just 3 boats that wanted to fly Spinnaker's? Around here our PHRF Spin classes have wanted to increase their numbers but have had limited success. I guess it's not just around here.

It was weird for sure. There were 15 J/24s, and 14 J/22 flying spins. Bunch of multi-hulls with gennakers. Then a big Cat22 without kites, and a ton of PHRF non-spin. But only 3 PHRF spin.

I know at LCYC the PHRF spin fleet has been suffering. Partially due to the lake being over an hour outside the SAT and Austin metros, it makes having regular crew much more of a hassle then it is at say WYC. When I first started racing there 5 years ago, there was always at least 5 boats in PHRF spin even for club races. Now they can't draw that for their biggest regatta of the year.

Congratulations on the win, too bad the weather wasn't better there over the weekend, probably wasn't much warmer than home. Gale warnings tonight and freeze warnings for Wednesday morning in SE Texas. Back in the 70's by next weekend.

Yea it was chilly. 45f to start, ending maybe 50f. Light rain on and off both days. With 3-4 races a day, it was long days on the water so I actually wore long sailing pants. That's rare for me if its not snowing! From the Melges. Holding the boom out and looking back to see where the next puff is coming from.
