Awesome weekend regatta

Team BlueJ take a 1st and a 2nd in today's two WYC Fall Regatta races, and we manage to finish 3rd overall in the Regatta, even after not sailing yesterday! We have to score a DNC, but also get a toss, and bunch of boats mixing up mid-pack results let us slip in. The 12-16 knots TWS also worked in our favor. Our conditions, and we nailed all of our maneuvers even after two weeks off. Great crew work Jodi, Brendan, and Jean!

Crickets... ;^) Anyway we GoPro all of our races and make training vids for the crew. This was the one made for our downwinds. Only one biggish error - anyone see it?

Did that gybe go as planned? Seems like the pole went forward in a hurry, maybe as you tried to stay clear of the leeward boat coming up the course?

Winner winner chicken dinner.

During gybes I run both the sheet and guy, driving with my knees. It works great because I can coordinate the turn and balance the kite with the pole rotation. But here in the 16 knots the guy slipped forward while I was handing it to Jean who would have fixed it on the winch. It took her 30 seconds to straighten it out and get it squared back to the breeze.

Indeed. And it matters. In the two 55 minute races, we won one by 22 seconds, and missed 1st place in the other by 8 seconds.
