Oh, Lord, those symptoms of fuel longevity sound waaaay too familiar. Good reason to maintain & rebuild vs. repower, it seems to me.

I'd love to see Main Sail's and/or Thinwater's take on this.

I'd love to see Main Sail's and/or Thinwater's take on this.

I spoke with Nigel about this last spring over lunch. He is pretty convinced that the new common rails systemsre going to be a an issue in the marine space. Mostly because the filtration industry has not yet caught up to what this the technology requires.

With the low sulfur in the fuel, will this begin to damage the injectors in the older marine diesels over time now? That was another concern that I picked up on.

I have to add that having lunch with Nigel is pretty darn cool!

How does the use of additives like Biobor JF help? It is designed for low sulfur fuels and microbial growth. I keep it in my tank.

This isn't a new problem, or even an unanticipated problem. It was one of the reasons I bought a used boat with the low-pressure, analog Yanmar 4JH3E. Better being the enemy of good enough.
